Basalt

Incorporated in 1901, and originally named Frying Pan Junction, Basalt was once little more than a stop on the Colorado Midland Railroad. Located at the confluence of the Frying Pan and Roaring Fork Rivers, Basalt now offers a strong sense of community and family living with an easy-going pace of life.

Stocked full of hearty, long time valley locals, the community welcomes young families and professionals that share a common love for the town, the mountains and the rivers. The growth in the area in recent years has also brought a surge of sophistication to the town of Basalt, which now offers a restaurant scene and retail shops that attract patrons from all over the Roaring Fork Valley. In addition, Basalt’s outdoor recreation opportunities range from world class golfing, to sailing and boating on Ruedi Reservoir, to gold medal fly fishing in the waters of the Frying Pan River. Basalt is also the starting-off point for some of the valley’s best hiking and biking opportunities. It’s no surprise that Aspenites and valley visitors are flocking to Basalt.
