We are thrilled to hear the good news that Snowmass mountain will open early this year on November 19, 2011. Snowmass will feature 160 acres of open terrain including the Big Burn and two terrain parks. The lifts will be open from 9am-3:30pm. For those with season passes, the Aspen Skiing Company recommends picking up your pass in advance of opening day to avoid lines.

Former Fritz Benedict cabin up for historic designation

An early Scandinavian immigrant’s cabin that was originally built near today’s Owl Creek Road in Snowmass in the 1880s, and is now a restored structure on Neale Avenue in Aspen, could become a historic landmark.
In between the cabin’s journey from the site of what is now the Timbers Club to the hill above Heron Park, it came under the care of influential Aspen architect Fritz Benedict, who rescued the then-deteriorating structure in the 1970s, moved it to his Stillwater Road property east of Aspen and had it restored.
