THE NORTH STAR LODGE: An Authentic Mountain Retreat

Never before on the market, the timeless North Star Lodge, with 7 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms is perched on an 8 acre private mountainside overlooking the fabled North Star Nature Preserve that showcases the Roaring Fork River as it snakes its way into Aspen. Views from the house face unobstructed open space and the north side abuts national forest extending to the summit of Smuggler Mountain and beyond. The Lodge is a portal to limitless recreational activities, yet only a five minute drive to the heart of Aspen. Outside the front door is a bike and walking path to town, a cross-country skiing trail, access to fly fishing and rafting, and within view of the dramatic grass landing zone for Aspen’s hang gliders. The covered walkway leading to the front door is a hint of what is yet to come.

The home itself is like no other. The 8,836 s.f. residence was designed by well-known local architect, David Finholm, and the interiors were created and inspired by an international artist and designer. This custom log home was built with giant 1000 pound fallen logs from Yellowstone National Park. The defining great room with 25 foot high ceilings and a towering fireplace has been the setting for numerous events hosting more than 100 attendees. Adjacent is an expansive kitchen, library and mezzanine accessed by artistic spiral staircase. The kitchen is adorned with exquisite, historic, American ceramic tiles, that are the original molds of Henry Mercer’s depiction of the New World. A grand staircase connects the two floors and all the bedrooms feature unique furniture, hand-crafted from limbs and branches of trees by skilled, local artisans.

Two master suites bookend the top floor of this dramatic mountain retreat, each with individual fireplaces, private decks and hot tubs offering tranquility and privacy. The grand entrance, with decorative fireplace, branches off to five of the bedrooms–four of which have en suite bathrooms. In total, 4,000 square feet of pine decking surrounds the home providing ample outdoor living space to take in the stunning views and the serenity of the east side of town, known as the “quiet side of Aspen.”
